Update from the Shoatz family:
As we mentioned last month, Maroon recently underwent surgery and had an extended stay in the prison infirmary.
We share with you now Maroon’s latest message on his health:
ONA MOVE
From Tom’s codefendant Ray Luc:
Tom Manning’s death on July 30 has me in the grip of an emotional riptide. I feel like part of me died with him.
Tom was imprisoned at USP-Hazelton, WV at the time of his death. The ostensible cause of death, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, was a heart attack.
NYC Jericho received a call from Theresa Shoatz, Maroon's daughter, on Friday, May 3, 2019 with the following report:
Russell “Maroon” Shoatz was seen today in the prison infirmary. He was lucid and able to speak, but complained of nausea and abdominal pain. Maroon was unable to keep any liquids or food down.
I begin with the greeting of peace, As-Salaamu Alaikum,
I hope all is well and thank you for your time. As you may know, my father Imam Jamil Al-Amin, formerly civil rights leader and humanitarian H. Rap Brown, was convicted of murder in 2002.
Firstly, I wish you all the very best of holidays in which you celebrate. I have been remiss by not sending out a strong Kwanzaa recognition and new years greeting. I want to acknowledge receipt of your letters, cards, and concerns. I’m humbled by your continued efforts that acknowledge my circumstances year after year.
Greetings of Peace, Imam Jamil Action Network (IJAN) has just heard that the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has called for oral arguments on Imam Jamil's Appeal. They have scheduled it for the week of April 29, 2019.
